Here we will give you the heads up on what to look for in a pair of fishing waders and what to take into account when buying a pair.
FIRST THINK SAFETY
Before you wade into any water, think about your own safety and that of others with you - on this point you should always have a "Fishing Buddy" if you are going to put yourself in a position where you maybe in danger. If you have not got a fishing buddy then make sure you tell someone where you are going to be fishing and when you expect to return.
On a final point if you going into water always wear a personal floatation device, make sure the one you get does 2 important things -
- Automatically inflates on contact with water.
- Will turn you round so you are face up in the water
These features are important because you maybe unconscious by the time you hit the water.
Things to think about at the waters edge
There are several things to consider before stepping into the water -
- Do you know the stretch of water you are getting into - are you a local or a stranger in this area. Do you Know -
- the lay of the land
- Is the bottom flat or uneven
- Are there any loose stones on the bottom
- Are there any drop-offs or holes
- If you have to get out in a hurry where can you do it - always remember this point and don't get caught up in the fishing and find yourself too far away from it.
- What is the weather forecast - you maybe going into the water and the sun is shining, but what was the weather like earlier? Was it raining? Are you going to get caught in a flash flood? Will there be debris coming down the river as a result of earlier rain?
- Whats up river from you - Are you down river from some sort of flood control system, is the a sluice up river from you?
Even after tking these things into account there is something that you should do long before you get to the water side and that is LEARN TO SWIM.
